VeritaMetrics vs Google Analytics 4

Google Analytics 4 is free and used almost everywhere, and it connects directly to Google Ads and BigQuery. It also sets cookies, requires a consent banner in the EU and UK, and ships a script of roughly 145KB. Google Analytics 4 vs VeritaMetrics: common questions

Is Google Analytics legal to use in the EU?
The specific 2022 rulings that made this a live question (from DPAs including Austria, France and Italy) turned on international data transfers to a US company under GDPR Article 44, not on whether analytics itself needs consent. The EU-US Data Privacy Framework, adopted July 2023, substantially addressed that transfer question, though it remains an area regulators continue to scrutinise. A cookieless tool that keeps data out of that transfer avoids the question entirely rather than depending on how it resolves.
Does GA4 need a cookie banner?
Yes. GA4 sets first-party cookies by default, and analytics cookies are not "strictly necessary" under EU and UK rules, so consent is required before they fire. Google’s own Consent Mode is a signalling layer that works alongside a consent banner, not instead of one.
How big is the Google Analytics script?
The gtag.js payload transfers at roughly 145KB compressed, about 18 times the size of VeritaMetrics’ ~8KB script. That weight is a large part of why GA4 raises page-load blocking time.
Does Google Analytics have session replay?
No. GA4 has no session replay at any tier. Teams pair it with a separate tool such as Microsoft Clarity or Hotjar and reconcile two data sets. VeritaMetrics includes privacy-safe session reconstruction.
