VeritaMetrics Cookie Policy

Last Updated: April 15, 2025

Zero cookies in the analytics service

The VeritaMetrics tracking script sets no cookies on the sites it measures, and the public pages of veritametrics.com set none either. Signing in to the dashboard does set cookies on this domain, for your login session (auth_session), the sign-in flow, and interface preferences such as currency. They are strictly necessary and are not used for advertising or behavioural tracking.

How This is Possible

Instead of using cookies, we rely on a privacy-preserving hashing method to count unique visitors for a single 24-hour period. This allows us to provide essential analytics without creating a persistent profile of any individual.

For a detailed explanation of this technology, please read our Privacy Journey page.

Whether your site needs a consent banner is a separate question, and setting no cookies does not settle it. It is decided by ePrivacy Art. 5(3), and by PECR in the UK, which covers storing or accessing information on a visitor's device whether or not that information is personal data. Our script writes three keys to sessionStorage, cleared by the browser when the tab closes.

Most customers run VeritaMetrics without a banner. This is our reading of the law, and it is not legal advice. The answer depends on your jurisdiction and on the rest of your site, so confirm it with your own legal adviser. Our Privacy Policy, legal basis section sets out the position in full, including the three things that cut against it.
